Overview
Supporting people through the joys and heartbreak of loving a pet is at the heart of the Tender Tails Program. Whether you're facing a new diagnosis, making difficult medical decisions, anticipating a loss, or grieving the death of a beloved companion, compassionate support is available every step of the way.
The bond we share with our animals is profound, and the emotional impact of illness, caregiving, and loss is often underestimated. The Tender Tails Program provides specialized counselling and grief support for pet parents across Atlantic Canada and Ontario, helping individuals, couples, and families navigate the complex emotions that can accompany a companion animal's illness, end-of-life journey, or death. Through evidence-based therapy and veterinary social work, Kathleen offers a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients can process their experiences, honour their bond with their pet, and move forward at their own pace.

Counselling & Grief Support
Kathleen provides in-person counselling in Halifax and virtual counselling throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario. She specializes in supporting pet parents as they navigate companion animal illness, anticipatory grief, difficult medical decisions, and pet loss. Services include individual counselling, couples' grief counselling, and an 8-week pet loss support group designed to help clients connect with others who understand the experience of losing a beloved companion.
Having supported hundreds of grieving pet parents, Kathleen has specialized training in evidence-based approaches that help individuals process grief, traumatic loss, guilt, and the complex emotions that often accompany the death of a cherished pet. Her goal is to provide a compassionate, validating space where clients can honour their relationship with their animal while developing healthy ways to cope and heal. Direct billing is available for most insurance providers.
